CE Election – CY Leung decided not to run for second term

Chief Executive CY Leung announced that he will not seek a second term.  He called a press session in an hour’s notice, and claimed it would put great pressure on his family, if he runs for re-election. “(Translated) The reason I invited you here is to announce, through media friends to the public, that I am not going to – not going to participate in the next Chief Executive Election.  It is because I must in the coming months, to take good care of my family.  (Between) my responsibility to the future of Hong Kong society and my family, I must make an responsible choice.”

The incumbent said that the Central Government understands his decision, but denied to speculation that he received “red light” for re-election from Central Government. “Everyone in Hong Kong can see that the Central Authorities, including the top leaders in the country, have been very supportive of my work over all these years.”

CY Leung says he will concentrate on preparing the upcoming Policy Address and Budget, and do his best in the rest of his term to fulfill his platform.
